Species Introduction
Teak (scientific name: Tectona grandis) is a premium hardwood, well known for its natural oils, warm luster, stable performance, and excellent durability.
Its color typically ranges from light yellow-brown to deep brown, with some boards showing reddish or orange tones. This creates a warm, rich, and layered visual effect.
Teak performs well under changes in temperature and humidity, offering high dimensional stability. This makes it especially suitable for interior applications where appearance quality and long service life are key requirements.
Production Areas and Distribution
Teak is mainly found in subtropical regions such as the Indonesian archipelago and Myanmar. It commonly grows in hilly and flat areas at elevations of approximately 300–1,000 meters.
South America, particularly Brazil, is also an important source of teak. Most Brazilian teak comes from plantation-managed forests, with the state of Mato Grosso being one of the most representative production areas.
Applications
Thanks to its natural durability and resistance to decay, teak is well suited for the following interior uses:
- Large indoor furniture: dining tables, long tables, cabinets, and display furniture
- Flooring and stair treads: spaces that require long-term durability and refined appearance
- Commercial interior decoration: wall panels, feature cladding, cabinet and furniture surfaces
